Nicholas Duplex
Nicholas Duplex is one our Year 12 ATAR students, studying an ATAR pathway into Music. His choice to undertake the Year 12 ATAR Music Course has opened new doors for him not only at Nagle but, in the wider Geraldton community. Nicholas really enjoys the opportunity to perform for the public. Nicholas’s passion for drumming manifests itself through his rock and jazz influenced style, which is being challenged and improved through his current task; to singlehandedly create a composition of sheet music for multiple instruments. Nicholas will have to blend these instruments together to create an original music composition. The final component and most challenging part of the task is a practical section, where Nicholas has to select an instrument from his composition and then perform that section. |

Nicholas’s talent and passion for his selected instrument is inspired by legendary Jazz drummer and composer, Max Roach, as well as more contemporary acts such as Snarky Puppy, an American jazz/rock/funk band. These inspirations are adeptly conveyed through Nicholas's precise and skillful style of play.
Nicholas has been playing since he was eleven years old and has been taking lessons at Nagle since joining the Jazz Band in Year 7. Joining the Jazz Band further fueled his drive, giving him a platform to express himself artistically, enjoying many of the Arts Events where he impressed with his performances. The hours of practice and dedication have really paid off and I’m sure anyone who has seen Nicholas play can attest to his ability with the Drums.
Nicholas’s creative flair also extends to his love of film and he hopes in the future he can be involved in Film Production and Directing films. The two Arts disciplines are often closely linked and in the future Nicholas would like to combine his two passions to create Music videos, or possibly work on Film scores. Nicholas says his dream gig would be to rock out on a pontoon in the middle of the Sydney Harbour. With Nicholas’s talent, drive and passion for the arts, the sky is the limit.
We would like to congratulate Nicholas on his commitment to his Music studies, his achievements so far and we cannot wait to hear more of his work!
