Nagle Catholic College aims to create an environment that encourages and supports students to develop a love of reading. Literacy Week and Book Week are always big events at the College and 2013 has been no different.
Term 3 saw a breakfast for 'Boys and Blokes', a Girls' Afternoon Tea and a Book Character Dress Up Buddy Lunch for students, parents, guardians and teachers to discuss their favourite books, authors and genres.
The Girls' Afternoon Tea included a panel discussion with visiting author Cristy Byrne. “While the discussion was centred on peoples’ love of books and reading, it was enlightening to hear how some people have not always found reading pleasurable and at times, reading has been a chore. Some people discussed how it wasn’t until they found a particular book that they uncovered a passion for reading,” said Mrs Faichney, Head of English.
The Edmund Rice Library has also hosted a number of visting authors this year including Dianne Wolfer, Michael Gerard Bauer, A.J. Betts and Brian Faulkner.
